Patient-facing content includes all medical and pharmaceutical materials targeted at patients and end-users.

Patient information leaflets, informed consent forms, instructions for use, medicinal product brochures, websites, and apps – these are just some of the materials that must be carefully adapted to the target audience’s literacy level, culture, and health-related knowledge.

Despite our substantial knowledge of medical terminology and procedures, we are well aware that, sometimes, translating for non-expert target audiences requires extra effort and linguistic skill.

In this session, we’ll talk about medical translators’ responsibility when dealing with patient-facing content, the challenges we often face, and strategies to ensure that the translated information is understood by non-expert target audiences.
